Abstract Objectives There are no international standards for relating fetal crown—rump length CRL to gestational age GA , and most existing charts have considerable methodological limitations. GA was calculated on the basis of a certain last menstrual period, regular menstrual cycle and lack of hormonal medication or breastfeeding in the preceding 2 months. CRL was measured using strict protocols and quality-control measures. All women were followed up throughout pregnancy until delivery and hospital discharge. Cases of neonatal and fetal death, severe pregnancy complications and congenital abnormalities were excluded from the study. GA estimation is carried out according to the two equations:

The CRL diagram presented by Robinson in is still widely used for the evaluation and dating of the early pregnancy. At 7 weeks, the rhombencephalic cavity lies at the top of the head; later, the midbrain is at the top. Growth curve of CRL in 29 healthy embryos reproduced from reference 9 with permission. The width of the head, also designated as the biparietal diameter BPD , is measured in the horizontal section perpendicular to the body axis. Due to the development of the brain, the largest width alters its position in relation to cerebral landmarks during the embryonic and early fetal period Fig.

The initiation of pregnancy for the calculation of gestational age can be different from definitions of initiation of pregnancy in context of the abortion debate or beginning of human personhood.
In case of in vitro fertilization, calculating days since oocyte retrieval or co-incubation and adding 14 days. Gestational age can also be estimated by calculating days from ovulation if it was estimated from related signs or ovulation tests, and adding 14 days by convention. As a general rule, the official gestational age should be based on the actual beginning of the last menstrual period, unless any of the above methods gives an estimated date that differs more than the variability for the method, in which case the difference cannot probably be explained by that variability alone.
Crown-Rump Length The fetal pole is first visible by transvaginal ultrasound at 5 weeks gestation with cardiac activity notable by 6—6. It is important to note that fetal heart rates can be slower than anticipated in these very early pregnancies, but should be within the normal range by 8 weeks gestation. The first true fetal biometric measurement possible is the crown-rump length CRL. By definition, the CRL is not actually measured from the fetal crown to its rump, but instead the longest linear dimension from the cephalic to the caudal end of the embryo with the fetus in neutral position Fig.

Mean Sac Diameter measurement is used to determine gestational age before a Crown Rump length can be clearly measured. The average sac diameter is determined by measuring the length, width and height then dividing by 3. The quantitative maternal serum beta HCG peaks at approximately 10 weeks and then reduces. It will be difficult to see if the mother has a retroverted uterus or fibroids.
The GS is an echogenic ring surrounding an anechoic centre. An ectopic pregnancy will appear the same but it will not be within the endometrial cavity.
Underestimation of gestational age by conventional crown-rump length growth curves. Reprinted with permission of American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Variations in the measurement of CRL can be attributed to differences in fetal growth patterns. Such differences are related to factors similar to those that influence birth weight curves, including maternal age and parity, prepregnancy maternal weight, geographic location, and population characteristics.
These include incorporation of the yolk sac or lower limbs in the CRL measurement, excessive curling or extension of the fetus, and tangential section of the trunk.
What are Obstetric Ultrasound Scans? Obstetric Ultrasound is the use of ultrasound scans in pregnancy. Since its introduction in the late ’s ultrasonography has become a very useful diagnostic tool in Obstetrics.. Currently used equipments are known as real-time scanners, with which a continous picture of the moving fetus can be depicted on a monitor screen.
The first structure seen with ultrasound, the gestational sac can be visualized as early as 4. A normal gestational sac is round or oval and is located within the fundus or mid portion of the uterus. The yolk sac is the first structure visible within the gestational sac. The yolk sac should always be seen when a gestational sac measures greater than 10 mm. A normal yolk sac is round and measures less than 6 mm. If the yolk sac measures greater than 6 mm, is bizarre in shape or is calcified, follow up exam is indicated since most pregnancies with abnormal yolk sacs will fail.
The second structure that becomes visible within the gestational sac is the embryo. Embryonic cardiac activity should always be seen when an embryo measures greater than 5 mm. With improvements in ultrasound instrumentation, it now is possible to evaluate some embryonic and fetal anatomy during the first trimester. Between 8 and 10 weeks, the rhombencephalon, a fluid filled cavity in the hindbrain, is easily identified.

The contrast between the two candidates on the stage will be fascinating, with Clinton, who has more than 40 years of public service behind her as well as a stint as secretary of state, to the billionaire reality TV star. The debate is being held one day after a Washington Post-ABC News poll revealed that Clinton’s slim advantage over Trump from last month has evaporated.
She is tied with Trump at 41 percent among registered voters, with Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson at seven percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein at two per cent, according to the poll. In a two-way match-up, Trump and Clinton were even at 46 per cent of registered voters. The survey showed a statistical tie among likely voters as well.
To investigate whether the difference between mean gestational sac diameter and crown-rump length (mGSD − CRL) is associated with first-trimester pregnancy loss or adverse pregnancy outcomes after in vitro fertilization (IVF) and to determine if mGSD − CRL is a better predictor of pregnancy loss than either measurement alone.

Methods for Estimating the Due Date
Dairy cows were introduced to by English settlers in the early s. Meat cows were introduced by Spanish settlers. Cattle were kept primarily for dairy production and were slaughtered and eaten only when they could no longer be maintained through the winter. This pattern was long established As early as live cattle were driven to Boston, where they commanded high prices By the nineteenth century, the United States was famous for meat-eating as England had already become by the seventeenth century
Very small and very large babies have higher mortality and morbidity rates than infants of normal size . Because early detection of growth abnormalities may help to prevent fetal demise and manage perinatal complications more appropriately, monitoring of fetal growth is .
