Aristotle defined comedy as an imitation of men worse than the average where tragedy was an imitation of men better than the average. However, the characters portrayed in comedies were not worse than average in every way, only insofar as they are Ridiculous, which is a species of the Ugly. The Ridiculous may be defined as a mistake or deformity not productive of pain or harm to others; the mask, for instance, that excites laughter is something ugly and distorted without causing pain. It is in this sense that Dante used the term in the title of his poem, La Commedia. As time progressed, the word came more and more to be associated with any sort of performance intended to cause laughter. Aristotle’s Poetics was translated into Arabic in the medieval Islamic world , where it was elaborated upon by Arabic writers and Islamic philosophers , such as Abu Bischr, and his pupils Al-Farabi , Avicenna , and Averroes. They disassociated comedy from Greek dramatic representation and instead identified it with Arabic poetic themes and forms, such as hija satirical poetry. They viewed comedy as simply the “art of reprehension”, and made no reference to light and cheerful events, or to the troubling beginnings and happy endings associated with classical Greek comedy.

May 3, Soap operas have always been a staple of daytime television, but ABC’s mid s Peyton Place was the last prime-time soap opera to be a major viewer attraction — until Dallas. It was not a big hit when it premiered in , but Dallas’s audience continued to build and, by the season, it was the runaway most popular series on network television, having spawned one spinoff Knots Landing and a host of imitators, including Dynasty, Flamingo Road, Secrets of Midland Heights.
Dallas had all of the elements that make for a successful soap opera — characters that were larger than life, conflicts based on the struggle for money and power, and lots and lots of sex.

The Bisexual, episode 1 review: awkward, deliciously frank dating comedy hits the spot
There is indeed strong evidence that autism is genetic. As much as it pains me to say this, because I really like Leigh as an actor, she feels painfully miscast here in other ways. Also, nearly all the teenage characters look like they are in their twenties, not their teens.

How does this show compare to the other late-night cartoon comedies like Adult swim, Toon at Night, etc. Pretty hit and miss. The show is about Mark Dexler chilling with his 2 roomies Woody and VJ and gal pal Sam, and their quests for getting drunk and chasing tail. With such a simple story base it allows writers to be very creative with hijinks and the story, with a very anything can happen nature. And the art style is done well and suits the subject matter.
Although it still has it’s flaws: It aimless story idea that allows for a lot of creativity but despite it’s strong efforts just doesn’t make the mark heh. The jokes and episodes never push the envelope and you’ll probably guess how it ends correctly by the first couple of minutes. The characters are very vain and mean spirited just for the fun of it but not in a “glorious bastard” or “loveable villain” way making it hard to relate or cheer them on.
And the views on race and gender sort of reinforce negative stereotypes just slightly rather than parody media and the general public way of thinking. The episodes that are funny or involve celebrity appearances Russel Peters are more pleasant surprises than anything else. Was this review helpful to you?

With its superb voice cast Kristen Wiig as a talking vagina! Maisel is a quick-witted delight. Between the period details, the breathtakingly artful camera work and just the overall scope, the Palladinos are taking full advantage of their presumably generous Amazon budget. It delivered a literal cliffhanger with a standout Season 2 finale, as Rebecca Bunch got ditched at the altar by her lifelong obsession Josh Chan. As director on all 10 episodes, she crafted a raw, brutally honest and truly one-of-a-kind portrait of single-motherhood unlike anything else on television, which made us laugh nearly as often as it made us cry.
Plus, bonus points for casting queen of the deadpan Betty Gilpin as soap-actress-turned-ass-kicker Debbie, aka Liberty Belle.

The French-language series, which hasn’t yet been named, is about a single woman in her thirties living in modern-day Paris and her group of friends who try to get her back in the dating game. I like a lot of things that come out of the UK. In my opinion, some of the best teen dramas and comedies are made by the Brits. But what about you? I’ve watched this show from its start, back in This show is all about teen debauchery in a way that a lot of American shows about teens just aren’t. Sure, it’s mostly a much raunchier version of Degrassi, but it also has great music and it is just straight up aesthetically pleasing.
The entire cast changes every other season with a new crop of teens to go through ridiculous teen shenanigans, and while I liked some of them better than others–don’t get me started on gen this show is always going to be one of my favorites. E4 Misfits I normally don’t go for supernatural shows, but Misfits is an exception. Basically, a group of kids doing mandatory community service get struck by lightning and they get special powers. They’re not the only ones who got super powers in that crazy storm.
Together they basically fight crime while trying to get along with each other. The show is funny, clever, and pretty raunchy and I definitely rec it for anyone, regardless of what kind of shows you’re normally into. E4 Some Girls This show has everything I want in a coming of age teen comedy: A diverse group of girls who go through the trials and tribulations of being teen girls.
